Learn the masculine plural rule early: los padres means parents, los hermanos can mean siblings and los tíos can mean aunt and uncle. Spanish uses the masculine plural for any mixed group.
Put the false friend parientes on its own card. It looks like parents but means relatives, and mixing them up changes the meaning of the whole sentence.
Draw your family tree and label every person in Spanish with the article (el tío, la prima). You practise gender and vocabulary at the same time, with names you already know.
Practise mayor and menor in full phrases (mi hermano mayor, mi prima menor). They come after the noun, the opposite of English word order.
