Practice without losing your schedule

Drill a deck whenever you like: cards that aren't due yet stay on their schedule, reviews come back on the day you expect, and one Hard no longer sinks a card.

Many of you drill a whole deck every day, not just the cards that are due. Until now every one of those passes pushed the card further out, as if you had remembered it across the whole gap, so a deck studied daily read as "mastered" within three days and then vanished from Today's Deck for months.

Now a correct answer on a card that isn't due yet is practice: it counts as study for your streak and your calendar, but leaves the card's schedule alone. The Okay and Easy buttons say "Practice" on those cards, the end of the round tells you when the deck wants you back, and each deck on home shows when its next card is due. A wrong answer still resets the card, whenever it happens.

Two smaller fixes to the schedule. Cards now come back on the day you were told, so a card you missed last night is in Today's Deck this morning rather than at the same time of night. And Hard is gentler: one tap used to take a card most of the way to its slowest setting, and eight easy reviews to undo. It no longer does, and a card you're still learning isn't penalised at all.

Reviews that show what each grade does

Cards come as a stack, every grade tells you when you'll see the card again, and each session ends with a summary of the round.

Reviewing now feels like working through a real pile of cards. The stack shrinks as you go, and a segmented bar at the top records how every card went, with a flame on the tip while you're on a run.

The grades say what they do: Hard, Okay and Easy each show when the card comes back, so you can choose knowing what it means for your schedule.

When the session is done, you get a summary of the round: how each card went, how many got stronger, and when they're coming back.

A home screen that shows what's next

Your next review sits at the top, your streak is always in view, and finishing the day gets a small celebration you can share.

Open Sticky and the first thing you see is the review waiting for you: how many cards are due, across which decks, and roughly how long it will take. One tap starts it. Your streak sits right beside it, so you know what's at stake before you skip a day.

When there's nothing left to review, the screen says so and celebrates with you. You can share the day's numbers or your streak as a card, straight to a story or a chat.

The profile is redesigned too. Your streak record has a card of its own, and settings are grouped so the one you're looking for is easier to find.

Share a deck with a link

Tap Share on any deck to send a link. Friends see the cards on the web and add the whole deck to their own Sticky in one tap.

Flashcards are better in company. Classmates cover the same chapter, language partners drill the same vocabulary, and until now the only way to pass a deck along was to rebuild it. From this release every deck has a Share button.

Sharing gives you a link. Anyone who opens it sees the deck's title and a few of its cards on getsticky.ai, and one tap adds the whole deck to their Sticky, with a fresh review schedule of their own. Your progress never travels with the cards, and you can stop sharing from the same place whenever you like.

Sticky in your language

The whole app is now available in German, Polish, Ukrainian, Dutch, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Turkish and Russian.

Most people who find Sticky are learning a language, and until now the app only spoke English back to them. From this release every screen, every button and every reminder follows your phone's language across ten new languages: German, Polish, Ukrainian, Dutch, French, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Italian, Turkish and Russian.

Your cards were never the problem. Sticky has always written flashcards in whatever language your notes are in, so a German student photographing German notes already got German cards. Now the app around those cards matches.

If you'd rather use Sticky in a different language than your phone, there's a new Language setting on your profile.

Hear about new features, if you want to

A new Product Updates switch on your profile lets you opt in to the occasional note about what's new in Sticky.

Sticky now has two separate notification settings on the profile screen. Daily Reminders nudges you when cards are due and when a streak is on the line, as before. Product Updates is new: turn it on and you'll hear about new features a few times a year, starting with a short "what's new" note the day after you update.

The two are independent. You can hear about new features without any study reminders, or keep your reminders and never hear a word about features. Both are off until you choose otherwise.

Type your answer and have it checked

A new review mode asks you to type the answer from memory, then checks whether you got it right.

Flipping a card and deciding whether you knew it is easy to fool yourself with. The new Type mode on the review screen takes that choice away: you see the question, type what you remember, and Sticky checks it against the card's answer. Spelling slips, synonyms, and different wording all count, so you're graded on what you know rather than how you phrased it.

Each answer comes back as correct, close, or missed, and that's what sets when the card next comes round. If the check gets it wrong, tap to correct it before moving on. Cards with maths notation show the answer and let you grade yourself, since nobody wants to type LaTeX on a phone.

Every card you review counts

Grade a single card and today is on your streak, even if you don't finish the session.

Until now, a review session only counted towards your streak and your study calendar once you reached the end. Leave part-way through and, as far as Sticky was concerned, you hadn't studied that day. That was the wrong way round: the work you'd done was real and saved, but the day wasn't.

Now the day is credited the moment you grade your first card. If you need to stop early, the end-session prompt tells you exactly how many cards you got through and that today already counts. Your streak also survives the clock change in spring and autumn, which used to quietly break it.

Your study calendar tells you what's next

The calendar on your profile now shows how many cards are due and takes you straight to them.

The activity calendar used to be a record: a grid of days you had or hadn't studied. It's now a prompt. Beneath the dots it tells you where you stand today, whether that's cards waiting, a streak at risk, or nothing due until next week, and when there's a session to do you can tap it to open Today's Deck.

Days are also shaded by how much you reviewed rather than just whether you did, and your best streak sits alongside your current one.

A faster, calmer launch

Sticky opens quicker, and the splash screen fades out instead of snapping away.

The splash screen has been rebuilt from scratch. It now shows the logo at a size that actually suits the screen you're on, fades out rather than disappearing abruptly, and hides itself on a strict timer — so a slow network can no longer leave you staring at a logo.

Underneath, the app moved to the latest Expo release, which brings a faster startup path and a pile of stability fixes that you should never notice.

Tell us what's not working

There's now a feedback box on your profile screen.

If a generated card is wrong, a deck imports badly, or something just feels off, you can now say so from inside the app — open your profile and send a note. It goes straight to Marc, who reads every one.

Multiple choice that doesn't give the answer away

Wrong answers used to stand out. Now they're plausible enough to make you think.

Generated multiple-choice questions had two tells. The correct answer was often noticeably longer than the alternatives, so you could pick it without reading. And the wrong answers were frequently just the right answer negated — "increases" against "decreases" — which gave the game away just as fast.

Both are fixed in how questions get generated. The alternatives are now built to be genuinely tempting: true statements that belong somewhere else in the topic, matched in length and specificity to the correct one. Questions should feel meaningfully harder, in the way that actually helps you remember.

Steadier note scanning

The camera handles failures gracefully instead of leaving you on a frozen screen.

Scanning a page used to fail quietly if the camera was slow to start or a capture didn't go through. The scan screen now tracks its own state properly, tells you when something went wrong, and lets you retry without restarting the app. The capture overlay also lines up correctly on every screen size.

A guided first five minutes

New accounts get a short walkthrough instead of an empty deck list.

Opening Sticky for the first time used to drop you straight into an empty screen with no obvious next step. New accounts now get a brief introduction that explains what spaced repetition is doing for you and helps you build your first deck before you're left on your own.

Streaks on the review bar

Get a few cards right in a row and a flame lights up on your progress bar.

A small thing that turned out to be a nice one. As you get consecutive cards right during a review session, a flame appears on the progress bar and grows with the run. Break the streak and it resets.

It's cosmetic — it changes nothing about how your cards are scheduled — but it makes a long review session feel less like a chore.

Hear any card read aloud

Tap the speaker on a card to hear it spoken, in the language the deck is written in.

Language decks were the obvious gap: flashcards that teach you a word but not how to say it. Every card now has a speaker button that reads the visible side aloud — the question before you flip, the answer after.

Sticky detects the language a deck is written in when it creates the cards, so a Spanish deck is pronounced in Spanish rather than read phonetically by an English voice. Audio for upcoming cards is fetched ahead of time, so playback starts immediately rather than pausing to load mid-review.

Math and science notation that renders properly

Equations, fractions, and chemical formulas display as real notation instead of raw LaTeX.

Anything with an equation in it used to render as unreadable markup — a quadratic formula arriving as a line of backslashes rather than as a formula. Cards now render mathematical and scientific notation properly: fractions, exponents, roots, summations, and chemical formulas all display the way they would in a textbook.

Rendering happens on-device, so formulas display just as fast offline as they do on a connection.
