Group weather phrases by structure: il fait (il fait chaud, il fait beau), il y a (il y a du vent, il y a du brouillard) and the weather verbs (il pleut, il neige). The structure is what you need to recall, not just the noun.
Learn au printemps as the exception: the other three seasons take en (en été, en automne, en hiver) because they start with a vowel sound.
Keep j'ai froid and il fait froid on separate cards. Saying je suis froid when you feel cold is a classic English-speaker mistake; it describes a cold personality.
Practise the homophones in one sentence, such as ma mère aime la mer, and let the spelling carry the meaning. Listening for context is how French speakers tell them apart.
