Study Tips for Family & People

1

Learn the beau- and belle- prefix as one pattern: beau-père, belle-mère, beau-frère, belle-sœur. It covers both in-laws and step-relatives, and context tells you which.

2

Practise the plurals of compound family words: grand-père becomes grands-parents and petit-fils becomes petits-enfants. Both parts of the compound change.

3

Say le fils aloud until it feels natural. Its final s is pronounced (feess), unlike most final consonants in French, and it sounds nothing like la fille.

4

Write a short paragraph about your own family (j'ai deux sœurs, mon oncle s'appelle...) and turn each sentence into a card. Personal sentences stick better than word lists.
